Trophy Animals most popular in a Package Selection

GREATER SOUTHERN KUDU
RECORDBOOK SCORE: SCI = 121
TROPHY EXPECTANCE > 50 inches

The Limpopo Province is well known for the superior trophy quality. A 50 reaches the minimum of 121 points for SCI. The Greater Southern Kudu (Limpopo Kudu) is larger than the Cape Kudu.

NOTE: The kudu has the often fatal habit of stopping after a short run from danger to look back. It is most active at dawn, dusk, and during the night. See Shot Placement

SOUTHERN IMPALA
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI=54
TROPHY EXPECTANCE > 22 INCHES

These animals are well adapted to the Limpopo Province and are high in numbers. We have over 2000 on hunting block of 15 000 acres. A 21 inch trophy impala will qualify for SCI.

NOTE: These animals form herds of 20 to 100. This make it tricky to get the trophy inside the herd. They rely on the many pairs of eyes as defense.

WARTHOG
RECORDBOOK SCORE: SCI = 13
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 9 - 15 inches

Warthogs are common and form family groups. Most hunters takes at least 1 on every safari to Africa. A definate to include into your first hunting safari package.

NOTE: warthogs need water daily and the best place to get a good trophy is waiting at the waterhole. They are most active at the waterhole from 10am to 2 pm.

Budget Trophy Animals to consider for a Packaged Hunt

COMMON SPRINGBUCK (Springbok)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 38
TROPHY EXPECTANCE > 12 INCHES

These small antilope form herds of 10 to over 200. A body weigth of less than 100 pds. This is the National Animal of South Africa. High in numbers.

NOTE: Open area animal, expect shooting distance of 200 to 300 yards. This pose a real challenge to hunt. Cal such as .243 and .7mm mag is ideal for Springbok hunting.

COMMON BLESBUCK (Blesbok)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 39
TROPHY EXPECTANCE > 15 INCHES

Open area animals. Forms herd of over 500. Live weight is about 200 pds, the same as the Impala. Fast runner, family of Tsessebe and Red hartebeest.

NOTE: Open area animal, expect shooting distance of 300 to 400 yards. This pose a real challenge to the hunter.

BLUE WILDEBEEST
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 70
TROPHY EXPECTANCE > 28 INCHES

Blue wildebeest are common throughout South Africa. High in numbers. Live weight of about 500 pounds.

NOTE: This animal needs to be studied before the hunt. It is a flat bodied animal and therefore bullet placement must be in the lower half of the body, Cal 300 and are recommended.

BLACK WILDEBEEST
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 72
TROPHY EXPECTANCE > 22 INCHES

Black widebeest is an open terain animals that forms herds of up to 250. We have over 4000 available at one of our concessions. This ensures the hunter the opportunity to harvest a top class trophy animal.

NOTE: This animals is slightly smaller than the blue wildebeest. Shot of 200 to 300 yards can be expected.

Medium priced Trophy Animals to consider for inclusion into a Packaged Hunt

GEMSBUCK (Gemsbok)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 88
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 34 to 42 INCHES

Well adapted to desert and semi-desert terain. They form herds of up to 40 animals in our region.

NOTE: Hunters should study the anatomy of the Gemsbuck carefully before taking a shot. This is a flat body animal, same as the blue wildebeest. Please look at our bullet placement web page for more information.

WATERBUCK (Waterbok)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 70
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 27 - 30 INCHES

These animals is similar in size to the Greater Kudu. They form small herds and are common to the region.

NOTE: They have similar bodies to that of the Europian deer families. Bullet placement should be aimed at the center line of the body. Different to the Gemsbuck and Blue wildebeest. See bullet placement on Waterbuck.

CAPE ELAND
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 77
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 27 - 33 INCHES

The Eland is the largest antilope on the plannet. Mature males can reach up to 2200 pds. Well adapted to the Limpopo Region and fairly high in numbers.

NOTE: This is a huge animal and calibre choice should be .300wm and up loaded with bullets that are designed for good penetration. These animals are tough and can go for days and many miles when wounded. Bullet Placement Eland

LIMPOPO BUSHBUCK (Bosbok)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 33
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 13 -17 INCHES

It is most active at dawn, dusk, and during the night. Operates close to rivers. They are a challenge to hunt as they prefer to stay in thick cover most of the time. They bed down in long grass during daytime.

NOTE: This spiral horn animal, family of the kudu has to be stalked early morning and late afternoon. Most are taken during the last 5 minutes of daylight.

BURCHELLS ZEBRA
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = NA
TROPHY EXPECTANCE: GOOD SKIN

Zebra is very common to the Limpopo region. This animal make a prized trophy as the skin is quite valuable, or a pedistal mount. The region guarantees you good skin quality.

NOTE: These animals are tough and calibers of .300wm and up are recommended.

RED HARTEBEEST (Rooihartbees)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 62
TROPHY EXPECTANCE < 20 INCHES

Red Hartebeest are common throughout South Africa. Not as high in numbers as the Blue wildebeest. Live weight of about 350 pounds.

NOTE: These animals are found in open and also brushy terrain. It makes an interesting shoulder mount.

Animals of opportunity

STEINBUCK (Steenbok)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 11
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 4 INCHES

The steinbuck does not form herds and therefore normally found in pairs. This small grazer has a live body weight of only 30.

Common throughout South Africa although not high in numbers.

GREY DUIKER (Grys Duiker)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 11
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 3-5 INCHES

The Grey Duiker is a rare animal and unlikely to be hunted in a single trip to the Limpopo Region. These small brousers are the same size than the Steinbuck.

NOTE: It is most active at dawn, dusk, and during the night. Sometimes seen at the waterhole just before dark.

COMMON REEDBUCK (Rietbok)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 21
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 13 - 16 INCHES

This animal is only operative at night and therefore most are taken at night. Live weight of 200 -250 pds.

NOTE: Hunting these animals pose a real challenge to the hunter. Night hunting searching for trophy animals is a tough job as it is very tricky to see the trophy size at night. Reedbuck also lies down when it spots a light. Not an easy animal to add to your list.

More Expensive Trophy Animals, normally taken on a 2nd or 3rd trip to Africa

NYALA (Njala)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 63
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 25 - 29 INCHES

The Nyala is part of the spriral horn family (Eland, kudu, nyala and bushbuck are the same type animal). Not too common to the region.

NOTE: The is an exceptional Trophy to have on the wall. They are mostly to be found in dense bushlands. It is most active at dawn, dusk, and during the night.

SABLE (Swartwitpens)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 100
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 37 - 41 INCHES

NOTE: Because of the rareness of this trophy, the price tag is high compared to other animals of the same size. They are also flat bodied animals and a good study of bullet placement should be made prior a hunt. Can be wounded easely, hunters tend to shoot these animals too high.

CAPE BUFFALO (Buffel)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = 100
TROPHY EXPECTANCE 38 - 42 INCHES

NOTE: The minimum Caliber for this animal is the .375 H&H. This is one of Africa's toughest animals to bring down. Hunt these animals takes place on foot, this make it one of the most exiting hunting experiences a hunter can have. Shot distance will be 60 to 100 yards.Please view or page on Cape Buffalo Hunting

GIRAFFE (Kameelperd)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = NA
TROPHY EXPECTANCE - NA

NOTE: We have many at our Limpopo Concession Area. Mature bulles have to harvested each year as there numbers are increasing and are close to over population of the area. These huge animals can reach 3000 pounds live weight with ease. Calibres of .300 and up are recommended. A high neck shot proved to be most effective.

JACKEL (Jakals)
RECORD BOOK SCORE: SCI = NA
TROPHY EXPECTANCE - NA

NOTE: Jackal are nocturnal animals and are only found just on dark or on a night hunt. There is no fee on Jackal.
